SMHAF (3rd – 23rd May)

Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) will return for its 15th year in May, exploring the theme of ‘Normality?’. SMHAF is one of Scotland’s biggest, most diverse festivals, led by the Mental Health Foundation. It aims to explore how the arts and film can help prevent mental ill health, challenge mental health stigma, and encourage participation from people with lived experience. Launching with the International Film Awards – a live-streamed online ceremony followed by a virtual reception – you can watch our entire film programme here from 3rd-23rd May. We will be screening 37 titles in total, including six feature films, all available on a pay what you can basis to audiences across the UK. Selected titles are also available internationally. Every screening will be complemented by a live Zoom Q&A with filmmakers, participants, and mental health professionals, with BSL interpretation and live captioning available. These conversations are a vital part of the festival and support people to talk about the issues raised by the films in a safe and welcoming space. We look forward to seeing you there.

HOW TO WATCH To watch films, you will need to create an account by providing your name, email address and password. All features and shorts programmes will be available for one week period during the festival, from Monday to Sunday.

TICKET PRICES AND PASSES Tickets will be available on a Pay What You Can basis, using our sliding scale pricing. Tickets for all feature films and shorts programmes will be available for FREE, £2, £4 and £6. To access the various prices, please click Rent and then tick the box “I have a promo code”. Enter the promo code for your ticket price – SMHAF0, SMHAF2 or SMHAF4 – and click apply. £6 is the default price, with no code required. Tickets must be paid for using a credit or debit card. If you do not have access to a card to make a payment, you are welcome to select a free ticket. To access every film in the programme, you can also buy a

SMHAF Pass. These are priced at £15 or £10 for concessions.

FILM ACTIVITIES Q&As involving filmmakers will take place on Zoom as part of every screening. There will also be a series of workshops, which will create opportunities to participate and learn from filmmakers connected to the programme. Tickets for these events can be purchased separately using Eventbrite. These are FREE but there is an opportunity to make a donation if you wish to. Please find the Q&A schedule and book tickets here.

ACCESSIBILITY Captions and/or English subtitles will be provided for all film screenings, unless otherwise stated in individual listings. BSL interpretation or live captioning will be provided for Q&As and workshops where it is required. This must be booked in advance and there will be a simple option to inform us about accessibility requirements at the time of booking. You can also email Emily with requests or feedback. SMHAF The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival features a wide-ranging programme of online and outdoor events by people all over Scotland – including performance, exhibitions, workshops and writing – from Dumfries and Galloway to the Highlands.
